As announced before (see announcement), from 28th to 30th of September the Second Interdisciplinary Symposium on the Biogeography of the Carpathians took place in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) under a title “Ecological and Evolutionary Facets of Biodiversity”.

A new paper on evolutionary relationships in Viola, led by Grzegorz Migdałek (Pedagogical University in Kraków) in collaboration with our lab has been published in Plant Biology. It deals with population genetics of Viola reichenbachiana and V. riviniana, two closely related and co-occurring European forest violets, and their putative hybrids.

A new paper co-authored by Tomasz Suchan has been published in Methods in Ecology and Evolution. It presents a modification of the previously published hyRAD method (Suchan et al. 2016) to target a transcriptome, rather than whole genome.

Two colleagues have joined us again this spring: Tomasz Suchan and Magda Tomaszewicz. Tomek had already been involved in our earlier projects and now we are happy to announce that he has been appointed a researcher (assistant professor) in our group. He will be involved in particular in developing NGS protocols and pipelines in our lab.

A new paper led by Camille Pitteloud (University of Lausanne) and co-authored by Tomasz Suchan has been published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B. It addresses the question whether the niche shift evolution is faster in sympatrically than allopatrically evolving species, applied to a the Palearctic butterflies of genus Pyrgus.
